| 1881, | President James A. Garfield is shot at a Baltimore & Ohio Railroad station in Washington, DC. Garfield dies on September 19, 1881. |
| 1894, | The U.S. government issues an injunction against railroad strikers on the grounds that it interferes with interstate commerce and the postal service. U.S. Attorney General Olney has a personal interest in the injunction as a former railroad director and still an attorney for several railroads. |
| 1901, | Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid rob train of $40,000 at Wagner Montana. |
